As we know, Bordeaux is best known for its red wine, which is why it is often forgotten that they also make incredibly good white wines, often from Bourg or Blaye. This Sauvignon Gris comes from Côtes de Bourg and is Demeter certified and thus from biodynamic viticulture. It is clear in color with beautiful green reflections. It is extremely aromatic with notes of boxwood, black currant, quince, peach and nectarine with light mineral notes. The taste is delicious, both smooth and fresh. It is lively and dynamic on the palate with a nice citrus acidity and a long finish. This is a wine that is a good companion with soft cheeses such as goat and sheep cheeses in combination with green salad, but also with grilled green asparagus, peppers from other vegetables from the barbecue. Because of its creaminess, I would certainly also serve with whitefish, possibly with a salsa Verde or with a beurre Blanc sauce with capers and lemon.
Only 7000 bottles are made. The wine is poured into stainless steel barrels.
A family property in Côtes de Bourg, Château Grand Launay has belonged to the Cosyns family since 1968, originally from Belgium. It is Michel Cosyns, oenologist and trained by Émile Peynaud in Bordeaux who bought the vineyard and it is now his son, Pierre Henri Cosyns. Today, biodynamics is a logical continuation of his father's early work. They always try to go further: wines without added sulfur, native fermentations, vegan vintages .. The estate has been certified organic since 2012 and switched to biodynamic viticulture in 2018. On the farm, Pierre Henri only uses care products from the plant of natural origin. The vineyard benefits from a varied landscape and a protected ecosystem: a diversity of landscapes, fauna and flora, forests and a pond. The vineyard has 24 hectares in Teuillac on a clayey soil and 6 hectares in Lansac on a clay-limestone soil. The grape varieties are 70% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. They only grow 2 hectares of Sauvignon gris for this white wine.
