Review Margaux 2017 3ème Grand Cru Classé
€67,95

The blending of the wine was completed in mid-January with nicely balanced selections. Château d'Issan 2017 is comparable to no other vintage, but remains completely true to the true expression of its historical terroir - that is the magic of its "Clos".

Description
The winter was dry and cold, so the vines hibernated peacefully. A lovely warm spring stimulated early flowering. In Bordeaux there was heavy frost on April 27 and 28, but fortunately the d'Issan “clos” was spared. The wall surrounding the estate was built in 1644. Being close to the Gironde estuary, this terroir has excellent geological features and an unparalleled microclimate. Thanks to these conditions, the vines of d'Issan were not affected by the series of cold spells that hit the region.
Also due to these conditions, flowering was seamless and over in less than a week, neat and simultaneous for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. At this point, the winegrowers estimate that the vines are two weeks ahead of their usual growth calendar. This vintage looked to be an early one! Very warm weather in June still kept the vines above average. Much-needed rain in early July led to gradual, persistent ripening.
The Merlot was harvested between September 18 and 27. The Cabernet Sauvignon was picked between September 25 and October 3. Because the flowering was so short and homogeneous, the harvest was the earliest since 2003. The grapes that were picked were beautiful and fruity, and very ripe with silky, stylish tannins.
The blending of the wine was completed in mid-January with nicely balanced selections. Château d'Issan 2017 is comparable to no other vintage, but remains completely true to the true expression of its historical terroir - that is the magic of its "Clos".
