The wine is deep, shiny crimson red. The fresh nose reveals an elegant balance of fruity, floral and mineral notes. On the palate it has a great harmony between very refined tannins and pleasant depth and length. A very fine wine indeed.

While rain has been a distinguishing feature of the most recent Bordeaux vintages ending on '7', 2017 was marked by frost on a frigid night in late April. Fortunately, the Gironde estuary protected the vineyards of the prestigious Medoc appellations. As a result, losses were minimal at Chateau Pontet Canet. Very favorable weather for the vines then continued for most of the season: flowering took place in mid-May and the berries had changed color by July 7. Despite some light rain in September, the grapes remained perfectly healthy until they reached optimal ripeness.

The harvest started on September 18 for the Merlot, followed ten days later by the Cabernet Sauvignon, then the Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Another important feature of vintage 2017 was the arrival of a new barrels, 32 concrete barrels of 40 hectoliters each. It's a way to get back to the essentials, as aging and vinification all take place without machines and without noise, with only human hands.
