Description
Still warm and expressive with its creamy texture and great floral notes. In this vintage 2017 we find the wonderful signature of the terroir, even in the strength of the tannins and the charm in the nose. Léoville Poyferré is known for producing high quality wine and being very consistent from one vintage to the next. This second Grand Cru Classé offers a rich, harmonious style worthy of its great gravel terrain. Generally there are notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, supplemented with toasted notes and tobacco when the wine is more mature. The generally abundant and firm tannins soften after 5 to 8 years, they are covered with a velvety and sensual texture that leaves room for great depth.

Since 1994, harvesting has been done manually in crates. The harvest is sorted manually on tables for the first time before the bunches are removed and a second time by optical sorting before the grapes are pressed. Vinification takes place per grape variety and per vineyard in fifty-six stainless steel barrels, twenty-seven of which are double-walled.

Wine making is mainly focused on the quality and finesse of the tannins. The vinifications are characterized by research and innovation to preserve the qualitative traditions and the lineage of the Léoville Poyferré style. The 27 double-walled barrels allow cold pre-fermentation for 7 days. The color is gradually extracted and a fruit purity is obtained that reveals the aromas. Particular care is taken in the choice of barrels to obtain a subtle woodiness in harmony with the wines produced. The wines are fully matured for 18 to 20 months.
