The name of this wine comes from the location of the vineyard it comes from - Vinha da Coroa is located at the highest point of Quinta do Vallado. They are an old vine, planted in 1958, facing north and with a mix of 27 different varieties in one vineyard. It is a beautifully textured wine with powerful tannins to match the juicy black fruit. It has aromas of forest fruits, with a hint of toast, coming from the barrels in which it matured. A very elegant and fresh wine, with a hint of spice and a lingering finish of red fruit, complemented by a soothing taste of spices and excellent tannins.
After manual picking, the grapes are divided into two batches. 50% goes into stainless steel vats including the stems and without crushing the grapes, which allows for carbonic maceration and alcoholic fermentation for 14 days. The remaining 50% is crushed and destemmed, and also ferments for 14 days in stainless steel vats. After alcoholic fermentation with very little extraction, the wine matures for about 18 months in 2 year old French oak barrels.
