Belcanto has a ruby red color. On the nose it has scents of juicy cherries, raspberries and spicy aromas with hints of Mediterranean herbs. The wine has a medium body with soft and juicy tannins on the palate and a fresh and velvety finish. Excellent for Tuscan starters and charcuterie, as well as for all types of pasta. Best served at around 16 ° C.

In the music world Belcanto stands for harmony that radiates a complete work. Belcanto also echoes the adage of the great wine critic Luigi Veronelli: "Wine is the hymn of the earth in the sky." In all respects Belcanto is the appropriate name for Nittardi's latest composition. The label refers to the history and terroir of the wine: eight pebbles in the colors of the gray galestro soil and the typical red hue of Chianti Classico - such as the eight notes of the scale and the eight grape varieties of Belcanto. And looking from this mosaic of eight pebbles, the face of Nittardi's historic owner: the Italian master painter and archetypal "Renaissance man", Michelangelo Buonarroti.

All grapes come from the vineyards of Nittardi in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti. Half of the grapes for Belcanto come from vineyards in Nittardi, located 450 meters above sea level, while the other half comes from a vineyard near Villa Rosa, south of Castellina at 270 meters. The Villa Rosa vineyard, planted in 1968, has Sangiovese and small amounts of seven other local grape varieties, including Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia Nera, Ciliegiolo, Mammolo, Foglia Tonda and Pugnitello. Both vineyards enjoy a soil mix of limestone and clay with a rich skeleton of Galestro, the local name for slate, which gives the wine a pleasant minerality.

After an extremely hot year in 2017, everything returned to normal in 2018 and this vintage can be described as "classic". There were a few days in the winter with snow in the vineyards, the spring was rainy, followed by a mild summer. The weather from mid-August to harvest was very nice with no rain and significant diurnal temperature variations. The healthy ripe grapes used for Belcanto were picked between 12 and 14 September in Villa Rosa and in Nittardi on 20 and 21 September. 2018 is the second vintage that all vineyards of Nittardi (Maremma and Chianti Classico) are certified organic after they started converting all vineyards to organic in 2014.
