Description
Pinot Blanc, South Tyrol's main grape variety, has awakened from sleep and has developed a calling card for the region. First vinified and bottled in 1982, Schulthauser is the consummate South Tyrolean Pinot blanc. This wine is not ostentatious, but is the perfect, fresh-fruity Pinot Blanc, whose delight is reflected in its creamy smoothness as well as its vibrant acidity. The color is straw yellow with green highlights. On the nose it has pure fruity notes of apple, apricot and pear. In the taste it is lively and balanced with a creamy taste in balance with fresh acidity. A premium aperitif and summer wine, it is also quite versatile when it comes to pairing with food: it goes well not only with seafood and fish, but also with delicate dishes made with game poultry. It is particularly recommended as a side dish with the South Tyrolean Schlutzkrapfen.

For more than 150 years, the vineyards around Moos-Schulthaus Castle have provided excellent conditions for the cultivation of Weissburgunder in South Tyrol. In the mild microclimate of cool nights, in which the grapes ripen, vines grow up to 40 years old. The museum 'ethnic studies' has taken place in the prominent castle Moos Sultans, which together with De Kathrinen Kapel reflects the architecture of the historic buildings.

The vineyards are located between 540 and 620m high at Schulthaus, above Moos Castle, in Appiano facing south-east. The terroir consists of limestone gravel and clay. Manual harvesting of the Weissburgunder takes place at the end of September. Most (85%) is fermented in stainless steel tanks and the rest in oak barrels, followed by malolactic fermentation. The two wines are combined in February.
