Description
Ad Astra has a lush ruby red color. It has a fascinating character of spice and chili with aromas of blackcurrant, plum and cherry fruit on the nose with a hint of liquorice. A fine wine with a complex bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, firm and silky tannins and a fresh and elegant finish. Excellent in combination with anti pasti, risotto, pastas and baked solid white fish and dishes with lamb or veal such as ossobucco. Best served at around 16 ° C.

The name Ad Astra is taken from the Latin phrase Per Aspera Ad Astra - "a rough road leads to the stars". An expression that also applies to great wines, because greatness requires a lot of loving work and care in the vineyards. Ad Astra is an accessible but at the same time serious red wine that is a pleasure both young and after aging.

The grapes used for Ad Astra grow in the Maremma vineyard called Mongibello delle Mandorlaie, between Scansano and Magliano, just 8 km from the sea at an altitude of 250 meters. The terroir here mainly consists of sand with granite stones and clay underneath. The 2015 vintage is an excellent vintage that we will enjoy for a long time to come. After a real winter that brought snow to most parts of Tuscany and a mild spring, summer suddenly arrived in late May and was one of the hottest we can remember. A general dry season allowed Nittardi to harvest perfectly ripe and healthy grapes during September in the Mongibello vineyard.

The Domain Nittardi is located between Castellina and Panzano in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. Nittardi was first mentioned as "Nectar Dei" in 1183. In the 16th century, the winery belonged to Michelangelo Buonarroti, who produced his own wine here. He is known to have sent his wine to the Pope in Rome as a "real gift".

Aging: 12 months in French oak barrique and tonneaux, a few months in concrete and subsequent aging in bottle for 6 months.
